Frequently-Asked Questions
What is a Faux Finish?
Faux Finishing is a common term that actually encompasses many different types of decorative finishes. Those finishes may range from simple glazes to faux stonework to elegant multi-layered European plasters. Confused? No worries! Tesoro Designs will help you select a finish that best creates the look and feel you desire in your space. Contact us to find out how.
How much does it cost?
Clients are often surprised at the cost of faux finishing. When you have your room painted, the painter (often only moderately skilled) can cover a large area quickly (usually an average of 300 square feet per hour). The painter usually applies only one or two coats of paint purchased from the local paint supplier.
Faux finishes, on the other hand, are not a quick process. They require extensive surface preparation, and are hand applied by trained artisans using superior, professional quality products. Faux finishes are frequently layered, therefore requiring multiple passes around the room. In addition, faux finishers must cover a much smaller area in the same amount of time and expend more physical effort to apply the decorative finish. Understandably, that translates to a higher cost. An industry rule of thumb is that a professional faux finish will cost four to six times more than it would to paint a room a solid color. Typical professional prices in the DFW area begin at $3.00 per square foot.
Do you charge a fee for the initial consultation?
Yes, we charge a $75 non-refundable fee. However, that entire amount will be applied to the cost of the job in the event that you hire us. Your initial consultation will include a comprehensive color consult, access to our extensive portfolio of professional finishes and our assistance in selecting appropriate finishes for your space. A consultation generally takes one hour. Due to the thoroughness of the consultation, we prefer to limit ourselves to 1 or 2 rooms per one hour consultation.
